WGR: Drawing History (12-13-2018)

With Good Reason

Sometimes, to tell a complex story, you need simple pictures. A conference at Norfolk State University has asked students to draw graphic novels that explore, from African, Indigenous, and European perspectives, the arrival in 1619 of the first enslaved people in North America.

And: We explore the epic history of African Americans in comic books, from the 1960s through Black Panther’s global success.

Plus: One devotee of Comic Con whose mission is to convince us that comic books are a serious art form, as worthy as other literature.
